Many of us enjoy a hot meal daily with coworkers, friends or family. However, there are numerous people throughout Houston who do not have the same pleasures. During the community feedings we soon discover that many of the people we feed have a home filled with empty cabinets, or many women have just been kicked out of the home by their boyfriends…with their children. Some are simply single parents trying to make ends meet, and some are simply homeless.
These group of people are of various ages, comes from all ethnic backgrounds, and are made up of all genders. They are no different than we are when we have lost control over our lives; we become vulnerable and frightened as we face financial and emotional decimation. The only difference between us and them at any given time, is that we have a place to reside; or, we are financially able to provide the resources we need. We are all alike when we become helpless and broken, as we struggle to find stability in the midst of chaos. Feeding A Community’s goal is to make sure that Houston’s hungry can get a hot meal through our community feedings and in partnerships with other feeding ministries. Feeding A Community began a little over four years ago, and has fed over 6000 of Houston’s hungry individuals and families through community feedings, food fairs. and holiday food give-a-ways.
